Kayo is a streaming service that delivers live sports, so buffering can occur at times. If you’re experiencing buffering, we suggest following the below troubleshooting steps:
- Reboot your device
- Reboot your WiFi router and run a speed test
- Clear the cache on your device
- Check that your device is compatible
- Switch to the Live Channel carousel
1. Reboot your device
Rebooting helps to keep your device running smoothly and efficiently, and can resolve many issues including buffering.
To reboot your device:
- Turn your device off and unplug it from the power source.
- After one to two minutes, plug it back into the power source and turn it back on.
2. Reboot your WiFi router and run a speed test
Buffering usually occurs due to a slow or weak internet connection, so rebooting the WiFi router can help.
To reboot your WiFi router:
- Turn the router off, and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 20 seconds, and plug the router back in.
- Switch the router back on (this can take about a minute).
- Try connecting to the internet again.
Note: An old modem or router can cause buffering.
It’s also worth running a speed test to ensure your internet connection is stable. We recommend an internet speed of at least 7.5Mbps to stream.
3. Clear the cache on your device
Cache is a software or hardware used to temporarily store information and data. When cache builds up and is not cleared, it can affect streaming performance.
Click here for steps on how to clear cache based on what device you have.
4. Check that your device is compatible
Make sure you're using a device, operating system or browser that's supported by Kayo. Try streaming on a different compatible device or via kayosports.com.au to see if that resolves buffering.
Similarly, if the device you're using has multiple apps or programs running, this can affect streaming quality. Close all open apps or programs for optimal performance.
5. Switch to the Live Channel carousel
Buffering can sometimes occur while streaming long sport games. If this happens, we suggest switching to the Live Channel carousel to watch the game.
To find the Live Channel carousel:
- Check which Live Channel you’d like to watch (you can view a full list of our Live Channels here).
- On the Kayo home page, scroll to the bottom to locate the Live Channels carousel.
- Select the Live Channel tile to continue streaming the game live.
